INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup or 200 gm sproutedgreen gram (moong)
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 tomato, chopped
  • 1 green chilli, chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • ¼ tea spoon cumin (jeera) seeds, roasted, powdered
  • ½ tea spoon or 2 ½ ml lime(nimbu) juice
  • A few coriander (dhaniya) leaves, finely chopped

Green gram is a powerhouse of nutrition. As mentioned earlier, it has high nutritive value and can be consumed by anyone for improving health. However, to be specific, the consumption of green gram benefits those who are obese, people who have dry and flaky skin, people who are high in cholesterol and people with high blood pressure. METHOD OF COOKING

  • Fresh sprouted green gram can be prepared at home. Take a handful of green gram, wash thoroughly and soak in the container till it absorbs a good quantity of water. Drain the water out and transfer the green gram into a sprouting container. Allow it to stand for about 3-4 days.
  • Now wash and drain the sprouts, steam for 5-7 minutes and put into bowl.
  • Add the onion, tomato, green chilli and salt; mix thoroughly.
  • Now sprinkle the roasted cumin powder and lime juice and toss salad well.
  • Serve garnished with coriander leaves.

Nowadays sprouted Green Gram is usually used in raw & cooked form by all of us. Consuming sprouted mung is strictly prohibited in Ayurveda. Moreover, while maintaining the cooking of moong dal, Ayurveda specifies its action differently:

  • If it is steamed, it can cause diarrhoea
  • If it is cooked in boiled water, it can cause constipation, to prevent constipation while taking Green Gram, you should add some ghee to it.
