According to WHO, Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. In Ayurveda, we see a very similar definition to Health which says it’s the pleasant state of soul, mind, sensory and motor perceptions in accordance to the equilibrium of three doshas (Vata, Pitta and Kapha), fire (digestion and cellular metabolism), cellular/tissue functions and the excretory products. Susrutha, the ancient Indian physician has thus defined the Health in its wide perspective aspect during 600 B.C which shows how far this science had advanced then. Ayurveda focus to maintain this equilibrium within the body to ensure both mind and body stay free from diseases and thus reward a Healthy life.
There are subjective parameters mentioned in Ayurveda which helps in assessment of health of a person. These physical and mental parameters change continuously depending on the time of the day, the season and age of the individual. The diagnostic tools like 'ashta sthana pareeksha, dasavidha pareeksha, saara pareeksha' help a physician to access the health of an individual.

Health is not the absence of any ailments. It is the complete harmony of body, mind and soul. Ayurveda define and describes healthy person very specifically as 'Swasthan'.
“Sama Dosha, Samagnishcha, Samadhathu, Malakriya Prasanna Athma, Indriya, Mana Swasthamithyabhidheeyathe”. It means when the three doshas are balanced, when the agni is balanced, when the seven tissues of the body are balanced, when the excretory process functions are normal, when the mind and soul is calm, happy and clear, then we can define he or she as a healthy person, means a person should be physically, mentally, socially and spiritually healthy.
