How is Kalaripayattu, the oldest martial art, connected with ayurveda treatment?

AYURVEDA DOCTORS AND EXPERTS ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS.

Kalaripayattu is martial art and fighting system that originated in Kerala. It is considered by some to be the oldest one in existence and historically it is connected also with the medicine, because the warriors had to cure their injuries directly at the battlefields, so very interesting healing system based on Marma points was created. Until today some of the hospitals practice Marma massages, which in the past used to be done by the fighters themselves. In SwaSwara we do not include them among the ayurveda treatments, but if you visit CGH Earth Ayurveda Kalari Kovilakom, there you can visit Kalaripayattu training.

Kalari Payattu is the most popular martial art of Kerala, which again is fading and dying. Not so many people are practicing it anymore, but in the latest period more schools were opened. Thalassery, the northern part of Kerala has various schools, where young children are staying in traditional gurukulas and studying Kalari Payattu. It is a form of relaxation and meditation, but also art to defend yourself if you are attacked by other person.

Kalari Payattu is connected also with ayurveda, because every exercise starts with oiling the body completely, so your body becomes flexible. Uzhichil or Thirambil both are the words for oiling the body. The oil goes into your body, remove the toxins and make you absolutely fresh and energetic.

Kalari Payattu and ayurveda are very much related. This traditional technique is slowly now coming back in Kerala together with Marma point massage, which is also one of the  Kalari Payattu massage form.
