Cliff View Ayurveda Retreat is newly build resort situated on the cliff above the famous Chowara Beach close to Trivandrum in Kerala. It is tastefully combining modern architectonical design with Indian spirit of authentic ayurveda. We can truly call it traditional Ayurveda in modern style. It is built in the Bauhaus style, which aims to reunite fine art and functional design, creating practical objects with the soul of artworks. This philosophy is deeply embedded into the open structure of the main building and the surrounding, which is embraced by tropical environment. The resort offers open artistic space which connects all the elements of the earth with individual being. There, all the aspects of the ayurveda healing are trying to bring body, mind and soul back into balance.
We have chosen to build Kairali Ayurvedic Healing Village in Palakkad, because it is considered hometown of ayurveda and also my husband's family. Surrounded by the Western Ghats, geographically, it is ideal place for practising ayurveda. Resort is situated in the middle of the paddy fields, with rich flora and fauna and its pure pollution free environment and fresh air is much better for ayurveda healing, than salty sea air on the beaches.
The roots of our family belong to Palakkad and that's the reason why it made us even more comfortable to come and start an ayurveda resort here. The contour of the property was left as it was, as the flow of the life - up and down. And also the flow of the water in front of every cottages was designed to give a very peaceful and a meditating feeling of mind, which relaxes you completely.
We have built 30 cottages according to Vastu Shastra (India version of Feng Shui) and every cottage was named after a Nakshatra (Star in Vedic Astrology). In every room was placed sacred conch shell which gives a positive vibrations. We planted trees and herbs in and around the cottages. The very air that you breathe itself has a very curative effect. Also diet was a very important aspect. The kitchen was designed to prepare ayurveda food, that people could come and eat easily digestible food and which would have helped them in getting their diseases cured or even just rejuvenating or relaxing themselves.
This whole property was kept with the norms of ayurveda and the whole place is just ayurveda and nothing else.
SwaSwara is the echo of its name. In Sanskrit - Swa means ‘myself’ and Swara means ‘sound’. SwaSwara is about listening to your self and about finding yourself. I think to find yourself in today's world is quite difficult. There's a combination of factors. We put too heavy burden on the back, we are too busy and physically exhausted which leads to mental exhaustion. We're not eating right. We're not eating right. But SwaSwara is athe place which helps you to calm down enough to be able to go within and begin to understand your Self. People laugh when I talk about SwaSwara and say there's a certain healing energy in this place, but I think that's what people feel when they come here.
SwaSwara is place to relax, rebuild and refocus the health of one. I believe it goes beyond the traditional definition of the Ayurveda wellness place, but at the same time it is not a hospital. The atmosphere here will not make you to think as you are in a hospital. The stay at SwaSwara helps to release from the miseries and diseases, also helps to find the positives of you and shows a path to healthy life. It gives you time and space to listen to yourself and follow that inner voice.

Manaltheeram belongs to Somatheeram Ayurveda Group (Somatheeram) founded by Mr. Baby Mathew. Somatheeram, the first ayurveda project started in 1988 and Manaltheeram in 1990. Both resorts are almost identical. I think, the only difference is the location. Somatheeram is situated on the top of the cliff and have beautiful view on the bay. Manaltheeram is almost touching the Chowara beach. But both resorts are offering the same ayurveda treatment programmes and services.
