The human spirit has the extraordinary capacity to find positivity during hardships. Some have found it in reading, others in cooking or gardening. ‘Dear Future Me’ is a virtual time capsule on social media that lets us look back and remember the good.
Art has been my escape during the lockdown. My studio is an open space on my balcony that lets me explore my subject without constraints. Plants give me company and make me feel like I am outside in open spaces painting my current project, which is portraits.

CGH Earth, owned by the Dominic family of six brothers, began in 1957 with Casino Hotel on Kochi’s Willingdon Island. Dance gave me the freedom to express my emotions and channel the energy I had into an art I love. As a classical Bharatanatyam dancer, I do not need a stage to practice my art; my terrace was enough, and I think I had quite an audience as well.

Back in 2017, CGH Earth gave curry leaf saplings to partners to promote a clean, green, healthy future. During the lockdown, I realised we’ve been eating curry leaves from the same plants grown at home. So, I expanded my garden to grow fenugreek, ginger, ajwain, lemongrass, and now tomatoes!

For me, yoga is a way of life. During the lockdown, I encouraged my children to participate in yoga sessions for mental and physical wellbeing. We practice Vriksasana (Tree Pose), Bhramari Pranayama (Bee Breath), and other asanas to help cope with the Covid crisis.

Namaskaram! I'm Vaishakh Puthiyakavil. I used to draw when I was a child, but I haven't done that since the 10th Standard. During the lockdown, I was able to get back to drawing. I enjoy drawing portraits and characters. I even did a funny sketch on the wall. So far, my favourite has been the tiger.

My mother was always into farming. This was the first time for me. The lockdown gave me the time to start cultivating some vegetables on my own in my home garden. It wasn’t an easy start, but now I enjoy farming and I feel a real connect with the earth. My family inspired me.
