Found on the busy colorful streets of walled city of Jaipur, are two men who are proudly preserving three eras of photography with their 1860s Carl Zeiss camera, Surendra Kumar and his brother and Tikam Chand. The camera is a piece of history.
The story begun in the Blue City. It should be blue, but soon after the first words were born, rain drops wanted to wash them away and the Story had to be hidden under the umbrella with two women, who could not see her.
Shiva strings the seeds of rudraksha around his neck, instead of sowing them under the ground. Thus he prevents germination. Humans are the only creatures for whom reproduction is a choice. Chain of rudraksha beads represents celibacy.
Narayana’s slumber represents a state when the consciousness is totally unresponsive to the world around. So deep is the slumber that Narayana is not even aware of himself. Things have no form or name. Space collapses.
The marriage of Shiva and Shakti transforms both God and Goddess. Linga means phallus. Yoni means womb. A Shiva temple, and by extension the whole world, is the yoni of the Goddess. The Goddess thus draws Shiva’s phallus into the world.
An hour long ferry ride from the Gateway of India in Mumbai to an island locally called Gharapuri and Elephanta by the Portugues, takes you to a hidden world of rock-cut Elephanta caves (UNESCO) with magnificent sculptures and beautiful carvings.
