04: Role of the Women in Ayurveda
It’s been a year, I remember how the Palakkad trip was one of my very first trips I went on a solo project. It was exactly after the so called shy five weeks after my wedding. Settling in for my art direction project at Kairali Ayurvedic Healing Village with Zuzana.
Ardhanarishvara symbolizes that the male and female principles are inseparable. The composite form conveys the unity of opposites in the universe. The male half of Ardhanarishvara stands for Purusha and female half is Prakriti.
Around us are the goddesses. Within us are the gods. Inside are Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva - creating, sustaining and destroying. Outside are Saraswati, Lakshmi and Shakti - enlightening, enriching and empowering.
Sacred geometry ascribes symbolic and sacred meanings to geometric shapes and proportions. It is associated with the belief that a god is the geometer of the world. The geometry used in the design and construction of religious structures.
SwaSwara reminds me a woman, she can be moody, but still you feel her openness and free flow of all-encompassing energy. She is a mother, a sister, a healer, it's all there! I think, this is Swara of Swa, you can hear that echo in the whole way it's built.
Ayurveda god Dhavantari is a male form, but in Kerala we had matriarchal system in which the woman had lot of power. So things like treatment was in the hands of the woman. Woman decided which way the family would go.
Shakti is the primordial female energy, which influences the creation of the universe. It encourages new ways of thinking, transforming energy, providing the courage to be free but also to be united with whole world.
Navaratri is a nine night festival that honors the Mother Goddess in all her manifestations. The worship, accompanied by fasting, takes place in the mornings. Evenings are for feasting and dancing. Each day has a different ritual associated with it.

Before I left to London, it was always a wish to gift Ammachi something special. She always said that only until I was a woman, I would wear sarees. I picked up the sarees from her wardrobe and visited some of the most important places in her life.
She may never say,” I love you,” she never has to. We all just know. This may perhaps be the shortest chapter. Only because Ammachi believes that love is pointless if only talked about or even boastfully shown. It’s something that ought to live in you.
